SYRIA - Food Journey through Damascus and Aleppo.
Every morning on the streets, we were greeted with a serving of freshly pressed fruit, as part of our daily ritual. Freshly picked berries, hand squeezed pomegranates and a delicious orange pineapple combo, that was simply the best.
At one stand, the gentleman served us fresh pomegranate juice in the same glass, as the previous customer, simply shaking out the large glass pitcher and providing a new straw to drink.
Itβs only years later, that today, we really understand and respect the nutritional value of the pomegranate, who he is weaved throughout almost every Syrian meal. (More to follow w recipes). Eating pomegranates may help prevent the inflammation associated with these chronic conditions, which is largely attributed to compounds called punicalagins, which have been shown trusted source to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
In the next couple of weeks, we shall be sharing our food journey through Syria with you, showcasing one of the most amazing experiences ever!
